WEEKLY WRAP OF WBOPCA SENIOR CRICKET 27 NOV

30 Nov

Week Seven – WE 27 November 2021

First up, we need to recognize and applaud two hat-tricks in a Classic Builders B Grade match on Saturday 20 November 2021, between Hawks and Katikati.

Hawks batted first, with Pinakin Patel who plays for Greerton but was loaned to Katikati for the day, taking a wicket with his  last ball of the 27th over and then coming back to grab the two more successive wickets, with his opening balls of the 29th over.

Not to be outdone, Hawks bowler Lakh Jattana took a hat-trick with the second, third and fourth balls of the 17th over, in the Katikati reply. The Hawks strike bowler finished the match with a six wicket haul at a cost of 25 runs.

Mount Maunganui batsman Pete Drysdale, wrote another piece of his clubs history, when he extended the Mount Maunganui Club all-time centuries to thirteen on Saturday. Opening the innings against Lake Taupo in a Baywide game at Blake Park, Pete played a patient innings to post 137 off 165 balls that included sixteen 4’s and two 6’s.

RPO Drysdale moved into equal second place on the Western Bay of Plenty Baywide all-time list, of 13 tons with Llorne Howell, three behind Te Puke’s Tai Bridgman-Raison with 16 centuries.

The idea between the newly minted Don Warner Challenge Trophy, was to have a Reserve Grade prize that would be on the line each week, on a roundabout of challenges. This weekend, current holders Papamoa, put the Don Warner prize up for grabs against United Indians who are engaging in their third challenge (see below).
