Week Fourteen – WE 5 February
Week Fourteen – WE 5 February
The weekend best came in the same B Grade championship encounter, when Te Puke Blue beat the PapaOMA’s. Te Puke bowler Jassi Sidhu played a big role in restricting the PapaOMA batting lineup to 170/9, in taking five wickets at a cost of just 16 runs. Jassi Sidhu anchored the Te Puke reply with 110 not out as his side cantered to an eight wicket win.
Bay Blasters Arjun Bhaskar, also posted three figures in his sides paper-thin margin victory over Katikati with 101 runs to his name.
The Reserve Grade Don Warner Challenge Trophy, resumes, after the break in play for the Reserve T20 finale at the weekend. The challenge trophy has gone on a merry-go-round ride since United Indians kicked of the first defence. The current holder puts the prize up each week in home and away competition, which has seen the trophy change hands six times.
Next Saturday (12 February 2022) current holders Cadets put the Don Warner trophy up against Katikati at the Tauranga Domain.

Mount Maunganui completed the second leg of the Classic Builders Reserve Grade competition treble, when they dealt to R&A Sangha, in the Classic Builders T20 Championship final on Saturday (5 February 2022).
The Sangha representatives won the toss and elected to bat. Mount Maunganui quickly had the Indian side in trouble, grabbing the first two wickets with just 9 runs on the board. They were in genuine strife, at five down for 36, when Vikas Tiwari arrived at the crease to steady the ship with a lightning 41 off just 24 balls.
Tiwari's departure, from an umpires decision of hit wicket, saw the Sangha side bowled out for a modest 117. Mount Maunganui quick Anmolpreet Singh Deo played a huge role in rolling the opposition, with four wickets for just 20 runs. The Mount pace man was backed up by Tom Bradburn and Nick Smith who took two wickets apiece.
A Mount opening stand of 74, from captain Nick Smith and Gagandeep Samra led the way for their teams eight wicket victory, with five overs to spare. Samra was in dynamite form in blasting 40 from just 26 balls, while Smith smote a more measured 44 from 36 balls. Kade Smit (17no) and Mitchell Dickson (9no) also played a role in their sides emphatic title victory.
