Papamoa Kings retained the Don Warner Challenge Trophy when they defeated Greerton by 179 runs on Saturday. Aman Mahal belted 116, in the Kings 383 for the loss of only four wickets. Greerton were restricted to 204 for nine wickets. The Kings victory saw them retain the Don Warner Challenge trophy that they removed from Cadets grasp a week ago.

 

The highest score of the season was belted, by Classic Builders Division Two Te Puke Charda Panjab batsmen Gupreet Padda, who hit 186 against Tauranga Boys College. The Tauranga Boys College Reserve Grade game against Papamoa, saw TBC break the 400 run barrier, with Billy Ramsden (119no) and Aryan Aryal (108) both recording centuries.

 

The weekend’s best bowling figures, came from Hawks bowler Happy Singh with five wickets for 32 runs in his sides meeting with Katikati.

 

Last Thursday (3 November 2022) two Classic Builders Reserve T20 matches were completed. United Indians posted 129/8 then restricted Papamoa to 87/6 under the Duckworth/Lewis formula, to take out the win points on offer. Aquinas College reached 128/9 in their loss five wicket loss against Greerton.

 SATURDAY’S CLASSIC BUILDERS WESTERN BAY CRICKET HEADLINES

 

The Tauranga Boys College second eleven, showed that the schools immediate cricket future is in good hands, when they beat Papamoa by 230 runs in Classic Builders Reserve Grade action on Saturday (5 November 2022).

 

Batting first at TBC headquarters at Nicholson Field, the home side simply belted Papamoa out of the encounter, in posting a massive 403 for the loss of just three wickets. Tauranga Boys opener, Aryan Aryal, set up the big Papamoa run chase with 108 runs at a run a ball. Luke Spargo posted a half century before Billy Ramsden arrived at the crease.

 

Ramsden continued the frenetic run-scoring action, hitting an unbeaten 119 from 86 balls, and belting a 141 partnership with Josh Espitalier (64no). Four wickets for 37 runs delivered by Jack Jones, did plenty of damage as Papamoa were restricted to 179 for nine. Nitin Bindal top scored with 55 for the visitors.

Padda smashed the highest score of the season, blasting 186 at a strike rate of 164.60, with his team reaching 330/9 in their forty overs. Standing behind the stumps in the Tauranga Boys reply, he effected three stumpings as they were restricted to 171 for the loss of six wickets.
