SATURDAY’S CLASSIC BUILDERS WESTERN BAY CRICKET HEADLINES

Two Mount Maunganui bowlers ripped through the Papamoa Kings batting order, in their Classic Builders Reserve Grade round eight encounter, on Saturday (14 January 2023).

Mount Maunganui, who had the Don Warner Challenge Trophy on the line in the encounter, batted first and posted what looked to be a relatively modest 130 runs. Logan Carr who came in at five, with his side in some trouble at 4/42, knuckled down to top score with a hard fought 52.

Few of the sideline spectators, could have predicted the devastation that Justin Earl and Nathan Walker would unleash with the ball. Earl was in rampant form with five wickets for 20 runs, while Mount skipper Nathan Walker was virtually unplayable, grabbing four bowling scalps at a cost of a solitary run.

The match was over in the 14th over, with the Papamoa representatives bundled out for 40, which left Mount Maunganui to face a further challenge for the Western Bay Cricket prize against the Papamoa second eleven, next weekend.

In other Reserve Grade action, Te Puke reached 205 for the loss of four wickets, before bowling Katikati out for 43 to claim a massive win.
