HOWZAT - Week 21

What a grand few days of Western Bay of Plenty cricket. The WBOPCA title deciders kicked off last Wednesday night, with the Classic Builders Reserve Plate decider between Papamoa and Aquinas College. Andrew Goldsmith set the Bay Oval alive with 131 at a tad better than a run a ball. Aquinas made a valiant attempt to chase the big total down before falling short.

The Plate decider was just the entrée to the Fifty Over (per side) Championship, with Cadets taking out back to back WBOPCA Reserve Grade titles, on Thursday at the Bay Oval. Cadets defended 197 after bowling top qualifier Baaj Sports out for 140.

Three very big crowds descended on Blake Park on Saturday, to provide loud vocal support, as their teams battled out the WBOPCA Division One, Two and Three Championship titles. Te Puke Blue, came from the fourth qualifying position in the Classic Builders Division One competition, to beat Baaj Sports. Te Puke bowler, Mandeep Singh Brar, produced the weekends best bowling figures in taking five wickets at a cost of 21 runs.

The Mount Maunganui Third XI, emerged triumphant in the Classic Builders Division Two title race, with the Baaj Sports Third team winning the Classic Builders Division Three championship.
