HOWZAT - WEEK 12

24 Jan

We open Howat’s Edition Twelve, with a catch-up of last weekend’s Classic Builders Reserve Grade match between Te Puke and Katikati, where long-time Te Puke player Tai Bridgman-Raison belted another century in his long and illustrious cricket career.

Tai was in rampant form smacking an unbeaten 107 in his teams 205 for the loss of just four wickets, before Te Puke humbled Katikati for just 43 runs all out.

This week’s Top Dog batter was the Papamoa 3rd XI’s Jason Schumacher, who banged just the seasons second 150+ runs, with 158 against Tauranga Boys College. Long-time Mount stalwart, Jason Luke, smashed his sixth century for the Mount Maunganui Third Eleven with 110 not out, while Baaj Sports Division Two, Kulwinder Singh joined the WBOPCA Top Gun list with 103 against Grasshoppers.

Week Twelve, saw United Indians Division Two bowler, Burwinder Singh take the top bowling honours, with six wickets for 23 runs in his sides game against Bay Blasters.

SATURDAY’S CLASSIC BUILDERS WESTERN BAY CRICKET HEADLINES

The long awaited Western Bay return to cricket without wet weather interruptions, arrived on Saturday (21 January 2023), to produce a 300+ run-fest for the Papamoa Division One team.

Papamoa 3rd xI batted first in the Classic Builders Div One game against Tauranga Boys College. Tony Biesiek and Jason Schumacher took the game away from Tauranga Boys College with a 179 opening stand.

Biesiek's dismissal two short of a half-century, saw Schumacher up the ante in smashing 158 before being dismissed. A strike rate of 141 (per one hundred balls) resulted in 25 4's and four 6's, in his sides total of 340 for seven wickets. Jason Schumacher’s big innings was just the second 150+ score of the current season.

Tauranga Boys were behind the eight ball from the start of their reply and were bowled out for 115. Rob Inglis was in grand form with the ball in grabbing four wickets at a cost of just 17 runs, in his sides big 225 run win.

The Classic Builders Reserve Grade clash, between current Don Warner Challenge Trophy holders Mount Maunganui and Papamoa, was a short and sharp encounter.

Papamoa elected to bat and were bowled out for just 69 in the 23rd over. The Western Bay Challenge prize-holders needed just seven overs to wrap up an eight wicket win. Niven Dovey top scored with 35 not out.
