Howzat - Week Nine
The Western Bay of Plenty showcased the regions micro-climate on Saturday (10 December 2022). Three centuries in the matches that were completed, were offset by a number of games being abandoned because of the effects of the weather, in the previous few days.
Greerton Division Two batsman, Liam Osborne, moved into second place in the season batting stakes with 139 well struck runs in his teams reply to United Indians 258/8. Daljit Singh laid the foundations for United Indians big score when he hit 111 runs batting first against the Greerton warriors.
Te Puke Blue’s, Bikram Sidhu, belted a neat one hundred runs against Tauranga Boys College - on a day where some bowlers worked magic with real success, with three five-wicket bags taking centre stage.
Cadets Reserve Grade bowler, Finn O’Brien O’Loan, made quick work of arch-rivals Mount Maunganui in grabbing five bowling scalps at a price of 19 runs. PapaOMA’s second in command, Rob Inglis was equally impressive returning 5/35. Hawks Reserve Grade, Davinder Khaila, provided his team with some joy before they were defeated by Papamoa Kings by 156 runs.

SATURDAY’S CLASSIC BUILDERS WESTERN BAY CRICKET HEADLINES
The halfway stage of the Classic Builders Division One to Three title chases was completed on Saturday (10 December 2022), with the conclusion of the First Round competitions.
The Greerton Division Two side, that appear destined for relegation once final First Round competition points are confirmed, was engaged in monumental shootout to avoid relegation.
Greerton weekend opponents, United Indians, who sit near the top of the standings won the toss and elected to take the early use of the batting strip.
The Indian ethnic team, posted a huge target, when they finished their forty overs at 258 for the loss of eight wickets. Daljit Singh hammered 111 off 97 balls with Bhupinder Singh posting a neat half century.
Greerton opener, Liam Osborne, left no illusions about his intentions at the start of his teams reply. Osborne simply went on a batting blitzkrieg, as he smashed 139 runs at a strike rake of 141 (per one hundred balls). He blasted eleven 6's and another eleven 4's in his whirlwind innings.
Greerton's tail wagged after Osborne was dismissed, and it was with some despair that the Greerton chase ended at 256/9, just three runs short of victory.
