A QUICK LOOK BACK AT LAST SATURDAYS WESTERN BAY CRICKET ACTION

The Don Warner Challenge trophy, contested within the Classic Builders Reserve Grade competition, is becoming a poisoned challis with just one successful defence after seven rounds of play.

Te Puke came from the bottom of the standings to comprehensively defeat the current Don Warner trophy holder, United Indians, on Saturday (11 December 2021).

United Indians batted first and were bowled out for 139. Ranjit Rai and Amrit Singh top scored with 30 runs - with Te Puke bowler Christian MacDonald in fine fettle, taking four wickets for 29 runs. Te Puke wasted little time in getting home losing just two wickets. Chris Rowe led the way with a well crafted 65, off 112 balls, while Christian MacDonald backed up his bowling with an unbeaten 47 runs.

Hawks will meet Te Puke Blue in the Classic Builders B Grade First Round title decider next weekend, after they finished at the top of the standings in their respective pools of play, after results were tallied on Saturday evening.
