Week Eleven – WE 15 January 2022
In this edition, we recognise three Western Bay of Plenty Clubs premier players achievements at the crease and congratulate a Katikati legend who has earned selection in the North Island Over-50s side.
The boundary ropes at Smallbone Park in the Sulphur City were under continuous attack on Saturday (15 January 2020), with arguably a record partnership in the new millennium, from two Cadets batsman.
Facing Geyser City in a Baywide Williams Cup encounter, Cadets opening pair of Fraser Lellman and Marcel Collett took no prisoners in their 271 opening partnership, which only ended when Lellman was dismissed for 154 with the first ball of the 48th over. Marcel Collett was removed eight balls later with 116 runs to his name.
Fergus’s big ton came at a tad under a run a ball with ten 4’s and five 6’s, while Marcel’s knock was from 141 balls, featuring seven 4’s and a big heave over the boundary ropes. Lellman’s noteworthy 150+ score was his third premier century of the 2021-22 summer.

Longtime Te Puke premier representative Tai Bridgman-Raison, cemented his name in the Western Bay of Plenty Cricket record book when he smashed 104 against Greerton. His century was the 17th of his premier career, which extended his Te Puke centuries record from the late ADG Roberts on ten centuries.
Tai also leads the Western Bay premier century’s list from Llorne Howell (Cadets) and Peter Drysdale (Mount Maunganui), on 13 three figure scores.
Congratulations are due to Katikati’s Ben Warren, who has been selected for the North Island Over-50s to play their South Island counterparts in two matches in Wellington 4&6 March 2022.
