Season Second-Half Opening Day – 11 January 2022

Western Bay of Plenty cricket kicks off on Saturday (15 January 2022) with the resumption of the last three rounds, of the WBOPCA Classic Builders Reserve Grade First Round competition. The first past the post First Round competition will then split into the Championship top six with the remaining five sides contesting the Plate trophy.

The WBOPCA Classic Builders B Grade Championship and Plate title races starts the following Saturday (22 January 2022).

The second half of the season start, is a good point to review the first part the 2021-22 season. Mount Maunganui, under the leadership of legendary Mountie Nick Smith, has made all the running in the Reserve Grade First Round stakes with six wins and one abandoned fixture from seven games.

Hawks B Grade team led throughout in the B Grade First round, also posting an unbeaten record. The First Round Final, between the top qualifiers from the two pools of play, resulted in Hawks cruising to an eight wicket victory against Te Puke Blue. The Te Puke representatives were rolled for just 72 with Hawks getting home for the loss of just two wickets in the 13th over.
