RAIN DELAYS CLASSIC BUILDERS T20 FINALE

25 Oct

Inclement weather on Sunday (24th October 2021) delayed a conclusion to the Classic Builders T20 Championships, with the last qualifying round and the two title deciders, re-scheduled for the second half of the season.

Mount Maunganui made a big move in the Reserve pool one qualifying race, with two victories, to take a firm grip on the top spot with just the rescheduled round five to play. The Mount bowlers led by Nathan Walker, who returned 3/15, restricted Te Puke to 94 for the loss of eight wickets. Mount Skipper Nick Smith anchored his sides six wicket win with 44 runs off just 26 balls.

Hawks posted an extremely competitive score against the Mount in round four, reaching 148/6.  Harjinder Singh and Kulijit Singh both reached the forties while Josh Allen grabbed three Hawks bowling scalps. Nick Smith again blazed away with his willow weapon, to hit 65 not out in his teams six wicket victory.

R&A Sangha added to their two first-day victories, with a solid win in their sole appearance, when defeating Katikati. The Indian side posted the day's biggest total in reaching 173 for four wickets. Last seasons leading run-scorer, Yogesh Kumar, continued his good form with 65 runs while GS Mahal reached 58 before being dismissed.

Katikati weren't fazed by the big target and at 143 for the loss of just three wickets, were well in the hunt for the win points on offer. However tight line and length from the Sangha side, restricted Katikati to 166/5, to give the Sangha XI a seven run win. Katikati opener Max Morton and number three Braden Brewer, both posted scores in the forties, to put their team right in the run chase.

Hawks flexed their muscles in the B Grade T20 title race with two big wins. Hawks posted a target of 166.against Bay Blasters, then ran through their batting attack to remove them for 108. The Hawks standout players were Navpreet Singh with 71 runs and Jasvir Dhillon with 46 not out. Hawks afternoon encounter was another walk in the park in beating Albion by 66 runs.

Two four wicket bags, were the standout of the afternoon clash between Katikati Singh XI and R&A Sangha. Katikati batted first and reached 133/7 in their twenty overs. Sangha bowler Gurishwar Singh, who was their bowler fifth-change, took four wickets at a cost of 34 runs from just four overs.

The match was a absolute cliff-hanger with the Sangha side getting home with the last ball of the match. Katikati Singh XI's Mandeep Singh was also mentioned in the days dispatches taking four wickets at a cost of 18 runs.
