MOUNT MAUNGANUI COMPLETE SECOND LEG OF CLASSIC BUILDERS RESERVE GRADE TREBLE
Mount Maunganui completed the second leg of the Classic Builders Reserve Grade competition treble, when they dealt to R&A Sangha, in the Classic Builders T20 Championship final on Saturday (5 February 2022).
The Sangha representatives won the toss and elected to bat. Mount Maunganui quickly had the Indian side in trouble, grabbing the first two wickets with just 9 runs on the board. They were in genuine strife, at five down for 36, when Vikas Tiwari arrived at the crease to steady the ship with a lightning 41 off just 24 balls.
Tiwari's departure, from an umpires decision of hit wicket, saw the Sangha side bowled out for a modest 117. Mount Maunganui quick Anmolpreet Singh Deo played a huge role in rolling the opposition, with four wickets for just 20 runs. The Mount pace man was backed up by Tom Bradburn and Nick Smith who took two wickets apiece.
A Mount opening stand of 74, from captain Nick Smith and Gagandeep Samra led the way for their teams eight wicket victory, with five overs to spare. Samra was in dynamite form in blasting 40 from just 26 balls, while Smith smote a more measured 44 from 36 balls. Kade Smit (17no) and Mitchell Dickson (9no) also played a role in their sides emphatic title victory.
The two Classic Builders B Grade First Round finalists franked there first half of the season form, when the championship title race resumed on Saturday. First Round winners Hawks squared off with Cadets who reached 156/8 in their allotted overs. A 123 run partnership produced by Navpreet Singh (61no)and Jasvir Dhillon (59no) took them to an emphatic nine wicket win.
Te Puke Blue were equally impressive in beating Papamoa with eight wickets in hand. Papamoa posted 179 for the loss of nine wickets, with Mark Sanders top scoring with 53 runs. Happy Singh did the damage with the ball grabbing five wickets for 16 runs. Jassi Sidhu led the way with an unbeaten 110 with Bikram Sandhu providing great support with 44 not out.
Grasshoppers chased down the R&A Sangha total of 199/9 with Andrew Balfour being dismissed for 99. TBC 3rd XI won a hard fought battle with Mount Maunganui to take out the win points on offer with three wickets to spare.
Classic Builders B Grade Plate contenders to post wins, were Katikati Singh XI, Bay Blasters, Te Puke Green and Greerton.
