MMCC RETAIN CLASSIC BUILDERS RESERVE GRADE TOP SPOT

Mount Maunganui retained their place at the top of the Classic Builders Reserve Grade standings, with a 94 run win over Te Puke at Blake Park on Saturday (27 November 2021).

The home side set their opponents a solid target in reaching 202 for the loss of seven wickets. Tom Bradburn top scored with an unbeaten 48 runs. Mount Maunganui applied the pressure from the start and grabbed their first wicket with just three runs on the board. Denym Clarke made a quick fire 36 off just 28 balls, before the Mount bowlers prevailed with Te Puke bowled out for 106.

R&A Sangha had to work hard to take the win points on offer from Cadets. The Sangha XI batted first and were removed for 184. Varinder Sandu was a rock at one end top scoring with 61 runs. Cadets made a determined attempt for victory, but pulled up short, being restricted to 173/9 to hand the Sangha side an 11 run victory.

United Indians set Hawks a target of 218, to win. before ripping through the reply to post a 99 run victory. Sukdeep Sidhu and Sunil Gaur both posted half-centuries for victors - with Harinder Dhaliwal (4/45) and Sukdeep Sidhu (3/12) removing seven of the Hawks batsmen.

Greerton, defeated Tauranga Boys College after being dismissed for 211, then bowling Tauranga Boys out for 95.

Te Puke Blue bowler Tejveer Singh, ripped through Bay Blasters in a Classic Builders B Grade encounter, to finish his spell with six wickets for just 18 runs. Bay Blasters were bowled out for 101, with the Te Puke side getting home with six wickets to spare. Tejveer Singh produced the best Western Bay of Plenty Cricket bowling figures of the season. 

Hawks won the pool one top of the table clash, beating TBC 3rd XI, in a game that went down to the wire. Hawks batted first and set Tauranga Boys third team a target of 213 to win. A Scott Curtis half-century set TBC a good platform, however tight Hawks bowling reeled back the reply to restrict them to 197/4.

Other B Grade contenders to pick up win points were Mount Maunganui, R&A Sangha and Katikati in pool one - and PapaOMA's, Grasshoppers and Cadets in pool two action.
