KATIKATI GRAB RARE CENTURY AND SIX WICKETS IN CLASSIC BUILDERS RESERVE GRADE ACTION

Katikati grabbed the rare double of six wickets and a century in a match, when they defeated Te Puke in a Classic Builders Reserve Grade match at the Te Puke Domain, on Saturday (20 November 2021).

The home side batted first and were bowled out for 181. Katikati stalwart Ben Warren mesmerized the Te Puke batsmen, taking six wickets at a cost of 32 runs, from just 8.4 overs. Simon Eve was like a shining beacon, top scoring with 82 runs, with his sides next best being 21.

Matt Earl, who is another longtime member of the club from the Western Bay extremities, took control of his sides destiny with 113 not out, as Katikati got home with five wickets to spare. Earl's big score came from 122 balls with seventeen 4's and a big heave over the Te Puke Domain boundary ropes.

The Don Warner trophy changed hands, with Papamoa relieving Aquinas College of the challenge prize. Papamoa were in the box seat after reaching 239/9 in their turn at bat. Aman Mahal (64) Daljit Singh (41) and Xavier Lee (33) did the damage, with Asa Banbury taking three wickets. 

Asa Banbury showed his all-round skills top scoring with a gritty 48 runs. Vishal Groundar was in top form taking five wickets at a cost of 19 runs, with Aquinas College removed for 135.

Mount Maunganui, remained the only unbeaten side in the Reserve First Round title race, when they provided Cadets with their first loss of the competition. Cadets set their opponents a very gettable target of 168. James McCabe was the best of the Cadets batting attack with 32, while Harry Burns grabbed a four wicket bag. 

Mount Maunganui had to fight like tigers for the win points on offer, losing eight wickets on the way to victory. Logan Carr (42) and Nick Smith (37) made valuable contributions with the bat. Finn Dempsey returned bowling figures of four wickets at a cost of 47 runs. 

R&A Sangha defeated Greerton by 122 runs, with United Indians led by an Amrit Singh century, easily overcoming Tauranga Boys College reply.

PapaOMA's and Grasshoppers, engaged in a battle of attrition in their Classic Builders B Grade encounter at Mitchell Park. Nitin Bindal led the OMA's batting attack with a sparkling 79 runs in his sides offering of 189/4. The Hoppers were in the run chase all the way with the match on a knife edge in the last two overs. Tight bowling stymied Grasshoppers desperate attempt to hit out with the Papamoa third eleven prevailing by five runs. 

TBC 3rd XI, provided proof that they are genuine title contenders after defeating former high flyers Te Puke Green. Tauranga Boys reached 211/7 then bowled the opposition out for 140. Tauranga Boys all-rounder Bryn Roberton had a grand day out with 47 runs and three wickets.

Further pool one action, resulted in Hawks posting 331/6 before bowling Katikati out for 104 at the hidden venue of Te Wati Park. The game was notable for the second six wicket bag of the weekend, taken by Hawks bowler Lakh Jattana. R&A Sangha beat Greerton with Mount Maunganui giving Albion a cricket lesson.

Pool two results saw Bay Blaster 244 defeat Mount Maunganui Inanga 131, Te Puke Blue beat Katikati Singh XI by 128 runs and Cadets got past TBC 4th XI,
